Where did Susie Homemaker come from?!!

So our family is trying to be more mindful of the foods we put in our bodies. We've starting eating lots of organics and using natural products (aka, my new love for delightful Mrs. Meyers :) Tuesday night, I was in no mood to hit the store for some meat to make supper. So lazy me, decided breakfast for supper was calling the shots. We had organic scrambled eggs (YUM!), warm oatmeal, organic fruit, and these beauties....

Homemade healthy pop tarts. Bea had to make them into hearts. Plain rectangles just wouldn't do. Fancy Nancy much?!! Anywho, in all honesty, I wasn't a huge fan. Ryan thought they were okay. But here's the deal. These are ALL whole wheat pop tarts. I don't do whole wheat. Well, at least I'm still weaning myself off of white flour little bits at a time and jumping straight from sugary terrible for you goodness to 100% whole wheat wasn't a great idea. The concept of these are great but I personally would change some things to the recipe. First, I would do at LEAST a half and half mixture on the flour. Second, I'd stick the dough through the pasta machine to make sure it was thin enough. (ours were too crusty) And lastly, I'd brush a tiny bit of organic butter on the top to give them a little extra yum factor. I'm going to try these again this weekend and see how it goes a second time around.

As if I wasn't crazy enough yesterday, I decided to make homemade tortillas today. The recipe was super simple (http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Authentic-Mexican-Tortillas ) but I thought taste wise, they were just okay. I did substitute out half whole wheat flour for the white flour which probably made a big difference...especially in tortillas

All in all, I thought they were okay. I'm having to get used to this whole wheat thing. These tortillas would have been soo good with some greek dip. Nothing like a little mexican and greek combo huh!

To sweeten my day just a bit, the fabulous organic delivery service dropped this delish box off tonight. This weeks contained, green peppers, fuji apples, baby carrots, kiwis, spinach, tangelos, pears, roma tomatoes, and sweet potatoes. I already ate a pear and mmmmm good! I was a tiny bit sad to not have any bananas this week. If ya'll haven't had an organic banana, you are SO missing out! I will say that is one fruit that I can tell a BIG taste difference in.
Oh my the sweetness!

So maybe going organic isn't just for weirdos....

Yep, you read that right. I never thought our family would be going organic.
It's pricey. It's not always convenient. And it doesn't "seem" as appetizing. But I was WRONG. About a month or so ago, I switched my cleaning products to Mrs. Meyer's.

Can I give a big shout out to Mrs. Meyer's here. Her products are hold.your.britches fabulous! They smell wonderful, they clean really really well, and they don't make me cough every time I spray them. Sounds like a winner!

And then I started praying about our family (especially me) making changes. And making a lot in the health area. A sweet friend has let me borrow her book Made to Crave by Lysa Terkeurst

God was pricking my heart to make a change. So Ryan and I decided to start incorporating more organics into our diet. (speaking of diet, that had been changing tremendously too.) Ryan found this program, Organics to You, that delivers a box of produce (you chose the size) every Tuesday. Delivers people. Straight to my door. No having to lug the kids to the farmers market, health food store, grocery store, etc. LOVE! This is the box we got this week.

The produce is so fresh and so flavorful! The apples are firmer and juicier. The cabbage was crisp. The pears were lick your lips tasty. Tonight I made this dish for supper

It was super yummy. I substitued ground chicken for the ground beef and brown rice for the white rice and added extra seasonings, but other than that I stuck with the original recipe :)

I am loving this new way of living are family is embarking on! And as if I couldn't get any more excited, while I was shopping today, I found a TON of Mrs. Meyer's products marked waaaaayyyy down! Like 75% off down! I snatched up every bottle I could.

Mrs. Meyer's, I big fat heart you!
